Pick the next president

The Iowa caucuses kicked off the presidential primaries on Thursday with upset wins by Democrat Barack Obama and Republican Mike Huckabee. Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney now rush to New Hampshire, hoping to regain momentum for Tuesday’s primary there.
Soon, we get a chance to have our say too. Many of you are eligible to vote in the Maryland, D.C., or Virginia primaries on February 12 – you get to choose our next president – but you need to register to vote.
The deadlines are only days away. Here’s what you do:
- Maryland 17-year-olds who will be 18 before the general election in November can indeed register and vote in the primary. Your application must be postmarked by January 22 to vote in the primary. Download the form.
- The rule in D.C. is that you have to register 30 days before election day, which means you must postmark your registration form by January 12. The D.C. form waits for you here.
- Virginia’s deadline is also January 12. Download its application.
